Ducket Models is a one man operation started as a cottage industry out of my modelling room.
I have modelled steam railways most of my life, at least the last 50 years. I have modelled in many scales, starting out in my childhood with OO. In my 20′s I switched to N gauge. In my 30′s I switched to 3mm which is probably where I would have stayed but, at the time, there were supply problems with track components and wheels and I struggled to build a running chassis. At heart I am a modeller who likes to build items, either from kits or from scratch. As a result, I switched to 009 where there was plenty of kits but nothing ready to run. Locomotives used chassis that typically came from N gauge engines which gave a route to producing working engines.
In 2019 I bought my first 3D printer, the Anycubic Photon which turned out to need a very steep learning curve. I elected to design items using Fusion 360 which is free for hobbyists. There are many people out there who are creating incredible items for use in our hobby but my sweet spot became creating detailing items that needed a level of repeatability to which 3D printing is ideally suited.
In 2022 I replaced the Anycubic Photon with an Anycubic Mono and am already eyeing up my next printer.
Initial prints were done for my Welshpool & Llanfair layout, Melin Dolrhyd, Since then it has expanded into a range of general purpose items as well as items for the Leek and Manifold, Vale or Rheidol and County Donegal Railways and the range continues to expand.
Originally the focus was on 4mm scale but that has now expanded to cover from 2mm all the way to 7mm. Anything bigger and I will need a different printer!
